On a visit to Provence, France, I bought a few quarter-meters of traditional print fabric from Souleiado . The patterns immediately evoke the images of southern France, the strong colours and the intricate motifs.
White seemed the obvious contrast with the Souleiado prints. The nine-patch squares were sewn together randomly, and then used to make large nine-patch squares with the background. I chose a bright yellow background because I wanted to make a quilt that recalled the strong summer sunshine.
Possibly I have overdone the yellow. We shall see. Now it is (only) the quilting to go – always the most difficult part for me.
